THE IBAU CEO DINNER 2026: PROUDLY SPONSORED BY NIC INSURANCE
The Insurance Brokers Association of Uganda (IBAU) hosted its 2026 CEO Dinner, proudly sponsored by NIC Insurance, on 29 October 2026 at Four Points by Sheraton, Kampala. The distinctive event brought together insurance brokers, the NIC team and other industry stakeholders for an evening of engagement, networking and meaningful conversations.
The evening was graced by the Guest of Honour, Dr. Sande Protazio, Ag CEO of the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA), and held under the theme “Collaboration Between Insurers and Brokers as a Catalyst for Growth.” The dinner provided a platform for open dialogue between insurers and brokers, focusing on the importance of strengthening professional relationships, addressing industry challenges and exploring opportunities for growing Uganda’s insurance market.
IBAU CHAIRPERSON CALLS FOR TRUST, TRANSPARENCY AND COLLABORATION
In her remarks, IBAU Chairperson Ritah Mutesi Kabayiza underscored the importance of collaboration between insurers and brokers in building a stronger, more resilient insurance industry.
She called for partnerships built on trust, transparency and mutual respect, emphasising that collaboration must go beyond professional relationships to become a shared commitment to growth and progress.
She challenged both insurers and brokers to honour their commitments, uphold professionalism and place customer experience at the heart of everything they do.
The Chairperson further reminded industry players that the success of one part of the insurance industry contributes to the success of the whole.
“Because the success of one part of our industry contributes to the success of the whole. When we build trust, support one another and work towards a common purpose, we create an industry we can all be proud of,” she emphasised.
Her remarks reinforced the need for insurers and brokers to recognise their complementary roles, strengthen their working relationships and remain united in advancing Uganda’s insurance industry.
NIC REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO STRENGTHENING BROKER RELATIONSHIPS
Addressing the gathering, Dan Musiime, Managing Director of NIC Insurance, acknowledged past service delivery challenges and reaffirmed the company's commitment to strengthening its relationship with insurance brokers.
Recognising that effective partnerships depend on consistency, responsiveness and mutual trust, he outlined several areas in which NIC intends to improve its service delivery.
These include faster quotation processes, timely claims settlement, prompt commission payments and dedicated relationship contacts to improve communication and provide brokers with more responsive support.
He emphasised that rebuilding confidence requires more than promises, noting that trust is established through consistent action and service delivery.
“Trust cannot be built in a single evening like this one. It is earned policy by policy and claim by claim,” he noted.
He encouraged brokers to continue engaging NIC, assuring them of the company's commitment to demonstrating meaningful improvements through better service delivery and stronger working relationships.
IRA CHALLENGES INSURERS AND BROKERS TO GROW THE INSURANCE MARKET
Delivering his address as Guest Speaker, Dr. Sande Protazio, Acting CEO of the Insurance Regulatory Authority, challenged insurers and brokers to look beyond competing for existing business and instead work together to expand the overall insurance market.
He observed that Uganda's insurance industry has significant room for growth, particularly in reaching individuals, households and businesses that remain outside the formal insurance system.
He urged industry players to embrace innovative approaches, strengthen distribution channels and build public confidence in insurance through accessible, relevant and customer-focused solutions.
Dr. Sande further emphasised that collaboration must translate into measurable action rather than remain limited to formal agreements, meetings and professional engagements.
He encouraged stakeholders to explore alternative distribution channels and partnerships with SACCOs, savings groups and community networks as avenues for taking insurance closer to more Ugandans.
Using the analogy of baking a bigger cake, he highlighted the importance of expanding the market rather than competing over its existing size.
“Let us not compete for a bigger slice of the cake, because the cake is not big enough. Let us instead collaborate to bake a much bigger cake. That way, we shall all win,” he said.
His message challenged insurers and brokers to view market growth as a shared responsibility, with opportunities for all players when more Ugandans understand, access and embrace insurance.
NIC LIFE HIGHLIGHTS OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH IN LIFE INSURANCE
The importance of insurer-broker partnerships was also highlighted by Allen Amoko, CEO of NIC Life Assurance, who called for closer collaboration to unlock opportunities within Uganda’s life insurance market.
She noted that brokers play an important role in connecting insurance solutions to individuals, businesses and organizations, making their partnership essential to expanding life insurance uptake.
She highlighted opportunities in retail life insurance, corporate life and group life schemes, encouraging brokers to engage NIC Life Assurance early on renewals and quotation requests.
She further emphasized the need for closer working relationships to develop tailored solutions that respond to the evolving protection needs of individuals and organisations.
Her remarks reinforced the importance of strengthening distribution partnerships to increase awareness, access and uptake of life insurance.
STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIPS FOR A STRONGER INSURANCE INDUSTRY
The IBAU CEO Dinner 2026 provided more than an opportunity for networking. It created a platform for open dialogue, acknowledgement of existing challenges and renewed commitments towards improving relationships between insurers and brokers.
A recurring message throughout the evening was that the growth of Uganda’s insurance industry cannot be achieved by individual players working in isolation. It requires trust, accountability, professionalism, effective communication and a shared commitment to delivering value to customers.
For IBAU, strengthening the relationship between insurance brokers and insurance companies remains central to building a more professional, responsive and sustainable insurance market.
The Association recognises that when insurers and brokers work together effectively, they are better positioned to improve customer experiences, expand insurance access, strengthen public confidence and contribute to the overall development of the sector.
IBAU extends its sincere appreciation to NIC Insurance for proudly sponsoring the dinner, the Guest of Honour, Dr. Sande Protazio, all the speakers, industry stakeholders and IBAU members who made the evening a success.
As the industry moves forward, the message from the IBAU CEO Dinner 2026 remains clear: the future of Uganda’s insurance industry will be shaped not only by what individual players achieve, but by what they can accomplish together.
Through stronger partnerships and collective action, insurers and brokers can help build an insurance industry that works better for businesses, individuals and the wider Ugandan community.
