IBAU Hosts First-Ever Insurance Kimeeza — A New Era of Broker–Insurer Engagement
Date: 4th July 2025
Venue: Hotel Africana, Kampala
The Insurance Brokers Association of Uganda (IBAU) hosted its first-ever Insurance Kimeeza, a new and strategic platform designed to deepen collaboration between brokers and insurers while creating collective solutions to long-standing industry challenges. Bringing together the 2025 first top conference sponsors which included; Sanlam, ICEA Lion, Britam, Prudential and UAP Old Mutual, along with the Uganda Insurers Association (UIA), the Insurance Training College (ITC), and the Uganda Association of External Vehicle Assessors (UAEVLA).
The Kimeeza sparked bold and honest conversations around claims settlement, service delivery gaps, pricing pressures, communication failures, and transparency concerns.
Unlike traditional engagements, the Insurance Kimeeza adopted a highly interactive format where members shared real case studies from their daily work. The conversations revealed recurring bottlenecks in claims handling, delays caused by poor documentation or inconsistent communication, and challenges insurance brokers face when advocating for clients without timely feedback from insurers. Insurers, on their side, emphasized the need for accurate underwriting information, proper risk assessment, and client education to improve outcomes.
What made this engagement exceptional was its solutions-driven approach. Both sides agreed on the importance of standardizing communication channels, promoting service-level agreements, improving turnaround times, and maintaining integrity in pricing and product design. UIA and ITC also shared insights on ongoing reforms and capacity-building initiatives aimed at improving industry professionalism.
The IBAU Insurance Kimeeza concluded with a unanimous commitment to institutionalize this dialogue into a quarterly platform, a major milestone in fostering mutual respect, stronger partnerships, and better services for policyholders. This dialogue will shape the future of insurance distribution and consumer protection in Uganda.
